Passau, and going through locks

On November 25, we sailed into Passau to spend the morning.

We soon headed out on a guided walking tour:

Ed on our way up the street to St. Paul's church:

Our guide said this was just a boring ordinary church (I'm paraphrasing) by European standards, but we liked it:

We then headed further into town to see St. Stephen's cathedral.  There was a Christmas market on in the square in front of it.  That's our guide in the red hat, she dresses in an old Bavarian costume of her grandmothers when she gives tours:

Okay, this baroque church definitely does knock our socks off:

Behind the cathedral:

This is a stairway in the town hall, we went in to see it as it's very beautiful:

This is the oldest pharmacy in Germany, I think?  Or maybe just in Passau.  I think it goes back to the 1300's or 1400's, I tried to look it up as I forgot, but can't find it:

Behind the church again:

After the tour, Ed and I went walking further on our own:

This is looking at the other side of the Danube River, as we walked towards the confluence of the Danube and the Inn Rivers:

Passau is located at the confluence of these two rivers:

After reboarding the boat, we sailed west and came to a large lock at the west end of town:

The ship more often goes through locks at night, so it was nice to experience going through during the day.  We were following another Viking ship that went through at the same time (it was a double-wide lock):

Passengers on our ship chatted with passengers on the other ship while the lock filled (we are headed upstream):

Ed touches a utility bridge as we pass underneath:

Heading upstream again on the other side of the lock:

Next, we'll be visiting Regensburg, Germany.
