Solstice Canyon hike

On Oct. 10, we drove north of Malibu to hike up Solstice Canyon.

Roadhouse dinosaurs on the drive up the PCH:

Ed checks an old horse water trough:

This canyon had been through a forest fire a few decades back, here is one of the old burned trees by the trail:

One of the smaller houses that was burned in the fire:

A large estate was also burned.  It actually had an elaborate water system to fight fires with, but the children of the original owner had let it fall into disrepair after his death, so the property burned.  Here are some photos of the ruins that still stand:

On the way back, we took a higher trail and the morning fog lifted for us to get some nice views:

Santa Monica

We went to L.A. in October and stayed in Santa Monica.  On October 10, we went for a walk along the beach in the late afternoon, to the Santa Monica pier.

On October 12, I walked over to the Venice canals, and then back along the beach.  There had been a storm the night before, and the clouds clearing along the beach were pretty impressive:

On October 13, I walked over to the Santa Monica pier, and then kept walking underneath it to the other side.  It was a little creepy under there, but very cool with the waves coming in under it:

On Oct. 14, we visited the Broad Museum downtown:

This was the infinity room, lights and mirrors, very cool, we got to spend one minute in it:

We also visited Solstice Canyon north of Malibu, but I will do a separate post on that.
