Dec 11: Waimea Canyon

It was STILL raining on the morning of Dec. 11.  It was forecast to maybe clear early though, (and mostly did except for the odd shower), so we stuck to our plan to drive up the Waimea Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific".

Here's a couple of views of the area around the town of Waimea, as we start our drive up the road:

Looking down on the Waimea river, and some farms along it:

It finally decides to stop raining ...

The Waipo'o Falls, flowing nicely after all the rain:

After driving all the way up the canyon (and getting into fog before the last, most allegedly spectacular lookout that looks northwest towards the Na Pali coast, but that is the norm up there), we hiked a trail that took us to the top of the Waipo'o falls.   Here is a little starter falls at the top of it, that runs through a pond on its way towards the big drop off:

Feral chickens are everywhere, even up here:

And here is the babbling stream on it's way to the cliff:

A few more pictures we took on the way back to the trailhead:

Another nice sunset down at the beach, once we got back.
