Oh my, it looks like I took over 100 photos in Nuremberg. No wonder I have put off putting them online! We were there on November 27, 2022.
Ed and I love castles, so in our free time in the morning we climbed the hill to go see this one:
Looking down in the chapel. We accidentally climbed to the balcony before seeing it and then it was a one-way route and we couldn't go back, but we could see most of it from up here anyway:
Some of the old large meeting and dining rooms are now museum exhibits. We didn't spend much time looking at the exhibits though as time was tight.
Map of the old walled town, I forget what year it's from:
Ed is too tall to have lived here:
Interior courtyard of the castle:
A handy guide to show the knights the most effective stabbing points:
Models of the castle at various stages. The oldest is from around 1100 I think.
This looks into an old garden:
Some photos from the outer courtyards:
Heading back down a different way back into the town:
Nuremberg is unique in that it is still circled by an intact wall. It was also a pretty big town relatively speaking back when it was built, so it's pretty extensive. One of the things I wanted to do was see the wall, so we followed it for around 1/4 of it's circumference.
A passage through the wall:
The old moat has a walking path in it now:
Of course, there was a large Christmas Market going on:
A famous fountain:
Our walking tour went back up to the castle, these photos are looking down on the town from there. Most of the buildings around here were destroyed during WW2 and re-built after the war:
Heading back down the hill again:
Christmas Market:
More photos again from the castle hill:
An old painting on a column in one of the churches:
The Christmas Market early in the evening, when we returned there to meet the group to get back on the bus to return to the ship:
