Amsterdam

On Nov. 26 we woke up docked in Amsterdam.  It was dark and early, as they feed you quickly and throw you out of your room to clean and get ready for the next cruise that will head upstream the same day.

Our first view of Amsterdam from the ship, when we first looked out that morning:

After breakfast, just before leaving the room:

This is one of the streets in the neighbourhood our hotel was in:

Our hotel was the Motel One, I marked it with a red X on the map, it was centrally located and we could walk everywhere.  The map shows everything as "temporarily closed" as I am blogging this during the Coronavirus pandemic shutdown of 2020.

Our rooms were not ready, so we went out to wander around for a few hours.  Here's one of our first glimpses at a canal, with one of the ubiquitous tour boats:

This arch drew our attention, so we went through it and down a pedestrian alley:

We visited a museum about the history of Amsterdam, here are a couple of the courtyards around the building:

In the basement mirrored corridor of the musuem, we had fun taking selfies:

Leaving the museum we walked down this narrow street:

Just before heading back to the hotel, we visited the exterior of the city hall and the square there:

It was raining (as it often was in Amsterdam, our weather there was more typical of November) so we headed back to the hotel where our room was dry and ready for us.
