On Nov. 20 we checked out of our hotel and crossed the river to walk around the hilly Buda side of Budapest. Here are some views of the Pest side, from the old palace on the top of the hill:
Statue in front of the palace:
We went to the Budapest History museum, located in an old portion of the castle that was excavated after damage from WWII, if I remember correctly. Below is a cellar room used for pumping water up from the river hundreds of years ago:
An old chapel, located under where the chapel used by the aristocrats would have been (the upper chapel has been destroyed at some point over the life of the castle):
The museum had an exhibition of war toys on. This is a battle scene created with Schenk figures, a Hungarian Playmobil knockoff from the 1970's:
Here is a Playmobil set with Cowboys and Indians:
Inner courtyard of the palace building as seen from inside the museum:
Random church on the Buda side, near the Elizabeth Bridge:
The Elizabeth Bridge (a translation, but that's what our tour guide called it the next day):
The Freedom monument at the top of Gellert Hill. It was a monument to something else during the communist era, but they kept it and renamed it for fredom. The monument is closed however, we got this photo through the wire fence at the top of the hill:
Views of Pest from the trail up Gellert hill:
First glimpse of our ship, ours is on the left and behind the one you can see (there are four ships in this photo, they are double-docked):
The Buda side, looking south on the Danube:
The famous Gellert Baths. We didn't go there, we did the other famous baths on the Pest side:
Another view of our ship docked at the front by the shore, as we walked over another bridge on our way to board:
The four ships from the back as seen from the bridge:
