On November 23 we had a bus and walking tour of Vienna, and then had free time in the city in the afternoon. These photos are of the winter palace in central Vienna:
A covered passageway with shopping, between two courtyards:
As we were viewing the comfortable stables of the famous Lipizzaner stallions, a couple of them returned from their morning outing. Our guide gushed about how lucky was to see them up close:
Shop window in one of the covered passages:
Don't know what this building was, but the rounded corners and clean white facade was very typical of the downtown architecture:
This is a memorial to the victims of the Bubonic Plague:
St. Stephen's cathedral:
Interesting building at cathedral square:
A couple of photos of shopping streets:
Back and front of the Opera House:
Ed in front of Schonbrunn Palace, the summer palace of the royal family back in the day. We took a subway ride here in the afternoon and did a tour, and also there was a Christmas market there too:
Picture of the chapel, the rest of the palace did not allow photos:
Some more photos from walking around in the central city once we returned from Schonbrunn:
This street is beside a hotel I stayed in in 2008. I lost all my photos from that trip, so I took this one to remember that street, as I walked it daily in my two-week stay there:
A courtyard with a shop:
Ed on the street that leads to Mozart's house, where we went next. It's now a museum:
Same street, further down, sans Ed. Mozart's house is at the end.
After Mozart's house, it was starting to get dark (can't tell from the photos as the camera lightens them), so we walked down the main shopping street to get on the subway to head back to the ship. Here are some Christmas decorations on the way there:
Looking up a side street:
Next up, we will cruise more of the Danube and visit Melk Abbey.
