Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

When we got to Death Valley, we were tired from the drive so we only did one very short hike at these dunes.  These are the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes.  It was late in the day and that is probably the best time of day to see them as the light is warm and makes for interesting shadows that shift every few minutes - it was a bit hazy too. This was December 9, 2012.

Lots of footprints in the sand there - these are heavily visited dunes.



A few days later we visited them briefly again on our way out of the park, here are Ed's way superior photos of the dunes on Dec. 14:
